This website has been set up to let people know about the classic offshore cruiser “Ocean Pirate”. The various sections chart the background of the boat, the yard where she was built, how she fared in the first Round Britain Race and the journey she will undergo to get to the start of only the third such race to be run and due to start on June 21 2008.
Her owner Mike Barlow said, “When we bought Ocean Pirate we knew some of her history including the fact that she had apparently competed in the first ever Round Britain Race in 1969. We had always intended to take her round the circuit again but the announcement that there was to be another race in 2008 gave us the impetus to begin the long preparation that will be required for her to take part in the Classic Class of this historic event.
The site will be constantly updated as we move towards the start date and will include details of the new engine installation, the trials (and probably tribulations!), details of the crew and all the other news that will – we hope – make the site interesting and vibrant.
Because there are considerable costs in taking part in this venture, (it has been likened to standing under a shower tearing up £20 notes!) we are planning to attract sponsorship to help and there will be more about how this can be done on that link within the site.
We hope that the reader will find the site interesting and informative and allow him/her to be a part of this great adventure and perhaps even have a stake in the outcome".
